If someone were to write a book about your freelance life / career, what would it be titled?
Champagne Problems. 😀
What is your city as Freelance Business Community Ambassador? Why did you choose this location. Why do you live there?
Dubrovnik, Croatia – Having been a Digital Nomad for several years, I’ve always chosen my next destination based on the atmosphere I seek at the time. This year, to my surprise, Dubrovnik hit the spot. It’s a long story, so if you meet me, ask me in person!
What do you do as a freelancer? What is your profession?
Freelance Writer/Editor for Marketing Content and Event Manager
When and how did you start freelancing? Where did you promote yourself?
I started freelancing as a model/actress in high school at 17, which grew into a full-time job until COVID. Until recently, I’ve been out of that field for a couple of years. I’ve also been freelancing as a writer/editor and, marketing and events consultant since 2014.
How did you find your current clients and projects?
Networking is key, for sure! But there are plenty of options to do it on your own. This question is hard to answer because there’ll be a different response depending on your location and industry.
What is your favourite thing about freelancing?
Being your own boss is definitely a bonus (but also a cliche answer). But aside from that, I like the variety and surprise aspect of it. You never know what your next project will be and life never gets boring. Oh, and of course, the freedom to travel and live wherever your heart wants.
What is your biggest challenge in freelancing?
Finding new work can be tough, especially if you’re not inspired. Not necessarily finding A job but finding a job that you’re eager to wake up to.
Where do you stand now with your freelance journey?
I’m currently a work in progress. My story is a bit messy as the company I currently worked for changed my role from a Managing Editor to a Financial Manager (long story). I also regularly write for WeddingBee, which I love because it’s a nice change of scenery from my daily brainy work. However, I would like to do a lot more with my time and effort. Hence, my friends and I have been working on a little pet project called Evolve, hoping to launch our own marketing/writing/social media/event company.
What would you do differently if you would start freelancing today?
Learn to budget. I know this now but in the first couple of years, I learned that being a freelancer means you don’t know if or when your next paycheck is coming. So, keeping track of spending and saving for a bad month(s), is a must.
